What’s All This, Then?

Dimestore Radio Theater! is a two hour block of Old Time Radio Programming on WFMU‘s “Sheena’s Jungle Room,” a live-streaming radio station that supplements the programming you find on WFMU‘s terrestrial station.

Hosted by Austin Rich, Dimestore Radio Theater! presents four Old Time Radio stories every week, with information and background about the show as the program unfolds. Think of it like that AMC show where they play old movies and they someone talks about them. It’s like that… but for radio.

Theater of The Mind… call it what you will, in the pre-television era of entertainment, people used to talk about radio shows in the same way people chat about TV now, and when you get into exploring these shows, you’ll find that they are merely a different way to tell familiar stories.

Dimestore Radio Theater! originally began in 2009, when I would occasionally air Old Radio Programs on my regular show, as one of the many stops on the way toward the “Over The Edge”-ification of my show. Occasionally I would air a block of “The Adventures of Superman,” episodes, or I would cap off a two hour show with a detective story (filling the last half-hour of my show so I could clean up the studio). But in 2022 I rebooted the show with Sheena’s Jungle Room, starting with a new format and new-old programs I haven’t aired before. It’s a lot of fun, and I now have an outlet for one of my long-standing interests.

Tune in every week for Dimestore Radio Theater!, and enjoy mid-Century Radio artifacts, brought to live in the modern age!
